The History
This luxurious Bed & Breakfast located in Guthrie, Oklahoma was once a funeral home in the 20’s as well as a private residence. The house is almost 100 years old and has quite the history behind it. It is rumored that 8 year old Augusta Houghton died in the home of a medication reaction and still makes her presence known at night. Many guests that have stayed at the Stone Lion have reported having their face touched and being awaken in the middle of the night. Also there is a story where a man had been spotted in the basement.
The Setting
North Central Oklahoma, Guthrie
We at the OKCGC had been waiting on this case for a very long time. Many days have we passed in front of the B&B on our way out of Guthrie and talked about investigating there. There have been many stories associated with the Stone Lion and we wanted to find out if indeed there was paranormal activity there. Logan contacted the owner via email about a month ago and followed up with her about a week ago. He agreed to meet with the owner on Sunday afternoon and go over the rules and regulations of the investigation. Logan and Brandon met with Becky (Owner of Stone Lion Inn) around 2pm. She went over the guidelines of what she expected and they agreed to the terms. They headed off to the Stone Lion shortly after to get some daytime footage for the video and to tour the building as well.
When they entered the building and started filming the tour they had gone around the 1st floor and basement and then headed to the 2nd floor. As Logan was giving descriptions of the rooms and describing the experiences he had before, Logan heard footsteps coming from the 3rd floor. It sounded as if someone was walking around very slow. They continued the tour of the remaining rooms on the second floor. When they got to the Kentucky Daisy room they noticed a small saucer that was sitting on the red couch by the stairs. This saucer was not there before they entered the Kentucky Daisy room but appeared shortly thereafter. They filmed the saucer and completed the rooms on the second floor. They then headed to the third floor to see what they could come up with.
As they entered the room, Logan and Brandon walked the room and closet filming for the video. Brandon decided to shoot some footage in the closet where the toys were. As he was doing this, Logan was walking and as he was a small black rubber ball rolled past him. No one else was in the room and Brandon was in the closet from a different direction. There is no way this ball could have came from either of them. They filmed the ball for the video and then headed outside for the rest of the video shots.
When they were finished, they headed to grab some food and meet up with Erik. When they arrived at Erik’s they showed him the footage they had gotten and the 3 possible anomalies (Footsteps, Saucer, and Ball). They then headed to Stables Restaurant in Guthrie to meet up with Ed. Erik, Laura and Ed got a quick bite to eat and then we all headed back to the Stone Lion Inn. Logan went over the rules and stories of the activity. He then took them on a tour of the building.

When they finished they regrouped in the study area to get ready for the first sweep. Since Jeremy had not yet arrived, we decided to do one sweep and wait a bit for Jeremy before conducting another sweep. As we were gathering our things, Erik noticed that his light that clipped on his hat was dimming. This had never happened before and the battery was good. We noted it and proceeded with the sweep. We started on the first floor, basement, second, concluded by the third floor.
There were erroneous patches of EMF in certain areas of the building. In the wedding suite we noticed what appeared to be a burnt rubber like smell. This smell remained in the room throughout our investigation. We took photos in the room as well as EMF readings. The mysterious saucer was still on the red couch. We continued the sweep and when we were finished we went back to the study to wait for Jeremy. Logan was walking to the door to let Jeremy in and the inside door (not the main front door) was locked. No one had locked that door when they had entered the building. We noted the occurrence and let Jeremy in and we started the second sweep of the building.
During the sweep Jeremy’s flashlight that Logan had loaned him went out and stopped working several times. In the kitchen, there was a smell of cooking in the air that was not present during our first sweep. Erik described the smell as a cinnamon type smell as if someone was cooking cinnamon rolls. Ed described the smell of apple. Maybe apple cinnamon rolls?? In the Wedding Suite, we again smelled the burnt rubber and also noticed that the word “hello” was written on the mirror. We cleaned the mirror to see if the word would reappear at sometime during the night. It did not. Also in the Wedding Suite there was a crib in the second room with dolls in it. When we started the sweep, the dolls were aligned along the back side of the bed. During the second sweep, we noticed that the dolls were covered with a blanket.
At the conclusion of the 2nd sweep, it was time for the sitdown. But first Ed wanted to take a small break and head for the gas station for a drink and restroom breaks. Erik was headed out the door and he noticed the door was locked again. Logan was the last one out the door and said he made sure it wasn’t locked. This time we video recorded the door and how it wasn’t lock so for sure if it was locked again, we would know it wasn’t by any of us. When they returned, we decided to perform the sitdown on the 3rd floor. Logan unlocked the door and went back into the Lucille Mulhall room for a brief minute. As Erik entered the doorway he turned around and asked Logan “Where is Brandon?” Brandon was the only one of the group that was not visible due to the fact that he was in the Lucille Mulhall room. Logan answered “He’s right behind me..why?”. Erik stated that someone was walking up the stairs in front of him and we were all accounted for. We noted the anomaly and proceeded to the 3rd floor.
We set up 4 cameras throughout the room and sat down in different locations to note any activity. During the sitdown, we noticed several knocks/taps throughout the room. At least 3 of the team members reported a strange flashing red light near the closet where the toys were kept. Also during the knock test, Erik stated we need loud knocks and when he knocked, there was a loud single knock following his 3. There was a chuckle or giggle heard by some team members during the sitdown as well. After the sitdown on the 3rd floor, we decided to do another sitdown in the study. This was a shorter sitdown where nothing happened out of the ordinary. When we packed up to leave, Ed was headed out the door when he discovered the door was locked again! This was the third time the door had locked on its own.
Overall, the activity was overwhelming. There was a lot going on what seemed like all the time. We did get great evidence out of this location and we would like to extend our thanks to Becky for letting us conduct our investigation. We would very much like to conduct another investigation here in the near future to see what data we can get and to finish our video Brandon has been working hard on getting finished. Stone Lion Inn - Mar 5th/6th 2006
Return Visit to the Stone LionWe were fortunate enough to be able to revisit the Stone Lion once again. This time, the circumstances would be a little different. The good thing was we started a bit earlier than last time and had more time to the house. The bad thing was that the 3rd floor was unavailable due to us not being able to locate the key.
Erik, Laura, and myself (Logan) all rode in the Blazer and the rest of the team drove separate vehicles. We entered the house and made a tour of the rooms and areas. Laura got a bad feeling in the basement area and had to step outside for a while until the feeling went away. In the kitchen, Erik and Laura heard the doorknob to the back door move and then heard two knocks on the wall. Ed checked the door immediately following and got some strange EMF readings on the Cellsensor on and around the door.
We started the sweep a bit later in the evening with no unusual results aside from Ed being touched several times in the Wedding Suite and a few anomalous spikes on the EMF. He described the touches as electrical feeling.
We decided to conduct sitdown in the Wedding Suite and again no anomalous activity. We decided to spend some time in the Study room to see if the activity would pick up. It did not. Hopefully when we return to the Stone Lion, the ghosts will be more active and we’ll be able to sweep the 3rd floor once again.
