Blackbear Church - April 9th/10th 2004

The Setting North/Central Oklahoma, Covington Blackbear Church During one of the breaks of the Dr Fear Show, Jason of Boogeyman chasers suggested we all go hit a cemetery for a while afterwords. Sounded great to us, after how often do we get a chance to investigate in Enid. As we sat and pondered over which one to visit, I thought back to earlier in the day when I was perusing the Boogeyman Chaser site. Immediately a thought came to mind, so i decided to throw it out there - "What about BlackBear Church?" I had watched the recently posted video of their first trip there, and was immediately captivated by it. I didn't actually expect to get to go there, as with most locations in this field, there are usually waiting periods, and down time until approval. So needless to say I was quite surprised to hear Jason say, "Yeah, we could do that!" Now pumped for sure, Andy and I we anxious to get the radio show completed, and head into the field. Jason wanted to wait for Mellissa to get off work, which gave the Dr Fear folks time to close everything down. They decided to join us as well. After a small detour to the gas station, we were on our way. Jason had said that the Church was on the outskirts of town, but that did not prepare me for how secluded it actually was. If it is any indication, it seemed that the gravel road we took was longer than the paved ones! Miles and miles of tree lined streets pass by until out of a clearing, like some over sized tombstone rises the church itself. As if in defiance to time, the building stood proud with all walls still intact and sturdy. While years of neglect and abuse had taken away its windows, doors, and some of the roof, it would be ahrd to completely control the outside contamination, nevertheless, you could not ask for a much better controlled site from outsiders. The moonlit night, and overgrown bushes accenting the structure only added to the stereotypical haunted look. Looking across the street from the church, looked like a cleared area past a chainlink fence. However, I thought I saw little glints of light here and there depending on where I looked. Upon sweeping a flashlight that way, it was suddenly clear that I was looking at a cemetery. We proceeded into the building, spending time in each of the areas. Several times during the night, figures were observed circling outside past the glassless windows. Satanic notations and other lost messages scrawled in graffiti stood out on the bare walls. Will this church produce as much data as the former Lost Church, only time will tell.
