The History Once used as a school gymnasium, this now restaurant has been rumored for several years to have reports of numerous hauntings and paranormal activity. Sometime in the 1940's this was the first indoor gymnasium in the local area. The basketball coach's wife died under mysterious circumstances when she was found dead inside her automobile which was engulfed in flames. After her death, the automobile was buried. After the building was no longer used as a gym, it was utilized as a skating rink for some years. Several spirits have been sensed and felt in this building. Several local paranormal investigation teams have visited this site in the past and have documented positive evidence. The Setting
We have known of this location for quite some time but until recently, never had the chance to investigate it. Erik contacted the owner via email and followed up with a phone call. We scheduled the investigation for the following weekend. That Saturday afternoon, we prepared for what was going to be a long day of driving. Before we could head out to Vina Rae's we had to first stop at Woodward to deliver the newly made DVD documentary/investigation of the Woodward Hospital to the caretakers. We arrived in Avard around 9pm. With no idea on where the building was, we spent about 15 minutes driving around the town looking for potential restaurants. After driving in several squares around the town and a few homes mistaken for restaurants, we decided to check out one of the larger structures in the town. At first glance, the large tin building could have been a warehouse or even some sort of processing mill. This, however, was our location. We entered the building and made our way down to the restaurant inside. We met with the owner of the restaurant, Nan, and talked for a bit about the history of the building as well as the history of the hauntings. She had showed us a photograph that she had taken and told us the story behind it. As we were discussing everything, we were treated to hot coffee and homemade biscuits and gravy. After the meal, we geared up for a sweep of the building. It was at this point that a strange occurane was noted. When Erik tried to turn on his camera, he ket getting error messages. Thinking it may just be the cold weather and humidity, he placed it near the heater for a bit. After awhile it was retried with the same results. On the same camera, Erik was trying to clean the lens, and remove a finger print, but it wouldn't come off. After much inspection and debate, it was found that the finger print was on the INSIDE of the lens where no one could have possibly touched it. We started at the entrance of the building and made our way to the back. Most of the readings were normal. We did note an EMF spike or two in one of the storage rooms. During the Sweep of Ann's room, the video camera's battery power indicator dropped 50% while in the room. Upon exiting, the battery indicator returned to original strength. After the sweep, we returned to the restaurant to debate on where the sitdown would take place. We decided to take the main hallway and position ourselves to where both north and south ends of the hallway would be covered. We set up arrays at both ends of the hallway and sitdown began. Nan joined us for sitdown. Shortly after sitdown began, the array at the north end of the hallway malfunctioned. We later determined that a dead battery was the cause of the malfunction. During the sitdown, we heard several noise coming from both the north and south end of the hallway. Also in the West Storage Room #3, which was vacant, a tall male presence was seen/heard/sensed by Erik and Logan. After the sitdown, we packed up and headed back home, which was a challenge in itself with thick fog and ice covering the roads. We arrived home 4 hours later.
